Xycle start eind dit jaar met de bouw van een fabriek in de Europoort, waar plastic afval wordt omgezet in vloeibare koolwaterstoffen. Dit is een grondstof voor de productie van kunststoffen.

Xycle – een joint venture van NoWIt, Patpert Teknow Systems en Vopak – heeft 14 jaar gewerkt aan de ontwikkeling van zijn depolymerisatie-technologie. Daarbij wordt gemengd plastic afval verhit zonder dat er zuurstof bij komt. Het verbrandt niet, maar valt uiteen en kan als ‘secundaire grondstof van virgin-kwaliteit’ worden gebruikt. 

Planning Xycle

Volgens het bedrijf is de techniek inmiddels beproefd en bewezen. Het wachten is nog op de omgevings- en bouwvergunning. Die worden in het derde kwartaal verwacht, waarna eind dit jaar met de bouw van de fabriek kan worden gestart. Deze zal aan de Rijndwarsweg in de Europoort worden gebouwd. Het doel is om in het vierde kwartaal van 2023 te draaien.

Xycle builds first factory in Rotterdam

At the end of this year, Xycle will start building a factory in the Europoort, where plastic waste will be converted into liquid hydrocarbons. This is a raw material for the production of plastics.

Xycle – a joint venture between NoWIt, Patpert Teknow Systems and Vopak – has spent 14 years developing its depolymerisation technology. In this process, mixed plastic waste is heated without oxygen being added. It does not burn, but disintegrates and can be used as ‘secondary raw material of virgin quality’. 

Planning

According to the company, the technology has been tried and tested. They are still waiting for the environmental and building permits. These are expected in the third quarter, after which construction of the plant can begin at the end of this year. It will be built on the Rijndwarsweg in the Europoort. The aim is to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2023.
