Deze week is het officiële startsein gegeven voor de aanleg van de ondergrondse warmtetransportleiding van Rijswijk naar Leiden. Daarmee breidt WarmtelinQ verder uit.

WarmtelinQ is de warmtetransportleiding die de haven van Rotterdam met Den Haag verbindt. De uitbreiding van Rijswijk naar Leiden werd bekrachtigd met de ondertekening van het convenant Warmtetransportnet Zuid-Holland in de regio Leiden. De provincie Zuid-Holland verstrekt 81 miljoen euro voor de uitbreiding naar de Leidse regio. Het ministerie voor Klimaat en Energie stelt hiervoor eveneens subsidie beschikbaar: 22,5 miljoen euro.

Warmtetransportleiding

Ook een contract tussen Vattenfall – afnemer van de warmte – en Gasunie maakt de uitbreiding mogelijk. Hierdoor kunnen 50.000 woningen en andere gebouwen van het aardgas af. Op basis van de subsidies en het contract met Vattenfall is Gasunie tot een positieve investeringsbeslissing gekomen voor de aanleg van het traject.  In 2025 zal met de aanleg van de leiding worden gestart, waarna in 2027 huizen met de warmte kunnen worden verwarmd. 

‘Forse reductie’

“WarmtelinQ is een belangrijke pijler in onze transformatie van een gas-infrastructuurbedrijf naar een energie-infrastructuur bedrijf. Belangrijker nog is dat het gebruik van restwarmte een forse reductie van aardgas en CO2-reductie betekent en mensen en bedrijven helpt om op een toekomstbestendige en betaalbare manier gebouwen te verwarmen”, aldus Hans Coenen, directeur strategie en business development bij Gasunie.

Heat transport pipeline from Rijswijk to Leiden

This week the official starting signal was given for the construction of the underground heat transport pipeline from Rijswijk to Leiden. With this WarmtelinQ expands further.

WarmtelinQ is the heat transport pipeline that connects the port of Rotterdam with The Hague. The expansion from Rijswijk to Leiden was ratified by the signing of the Covenant Warmtetransportnet Zuid-Holland in the Leiden region. The Province of Zuid-Holland is providing EUR 81 million for the expansion to the Leiden region. The Ministry of Climate and Energy is also making a subsidy available for this: EUR 22.5 million.

Positive investment decision

A contract between Vattenfall – the purchaser of the heat – and Gasunie will also make the expansion possible. As a result, 50,000 homes and other buildings can be switched off from natural gas. On the basis of the subsidies and the contract with Vattenfall, Gasunie has made a positive investment decision for the construction of the pipeline. The construction of the pipeline will start in 2025, after which houses can be heated with the heat in 2027.
