Gate terminal kan een vierde opslagtank gaan bouwen. Het heeft hiervoor de aangepaste vergunning van de provincie Zuid-Holland binnen.

Op dit moment beschikt Gate terminal – dat eigendom is van Vopak en Gasunie – in Rotterdam over drie LNG-opslagtanks. Deze hebben een opslagcapaciteit van 540.000 bcm (miljard kubieke meter). 

Aangepaste vergunning

Met de toevoeging van een vierde LNG-opslagtank zal Gate terminal jaarlijks 20 bcm LNG kunnen verwerken. Het had hiervoor al een vergunning van de provincie Zuid-Holland ontvangen. “We hadden echter een aanpassing nodig aangezien we met de huidige infrastructuur al 16 bcm kunnen verwerken”, legt commercieel manager Stefaan Adriaens uit op de website LNGPrime.

Leveringszekerheid

Dat de aangepaste vergunning nu binnen is, noemt Adriaens een volgende stap op weg naar de gewenste uitbreiding. “We hopen in 2026 te kunnen starten en zo Noordwest-Europa leveringszekerheid te bieden”, aldus Adriaens op LinkedIn.

Gate terminal can start building a fourth storage tank. It has received the updated permit from the province of South Holland for this purpose.

Another step

That the modified permit is now in, Adriaens calls it another step towards the desired expansion. ” Aiming for 2026 to start this much needed Northwestern European capacity to contribute to security of supply,” Adriaens said on LinkedIn.
