De Taskforce Clean Sweep Rotterdam bestaat uit de volgende ‘kerngroep’ aan deelnemers: het Havenbedrijf Rotterdam, DCMR, Rijkswaterstaat, PlasticsEurope Nederland, Ducor Petrochemicals, LyondellBasell, Shin-Etsu, Huntsman en Rotterdam Polymer Hub. Plastic korrels

Het programma is vernoemd naar het programma Operation Clean Sweep van PlasticsEurope, de brancheorganisatie van de kunststof producerende industrie. Dit streeft naar nul uitstoot van plastic pellets, poeders en vlokken. Voorzitter Ann Geens (Ducor) van de Taskforce Clean Sweep Rotterdam stelt dat de taskforce achter de doelstellingen van Operation Clean Sweep staat.

Bredere aanpak

“Er liggen in het Rotterdamse havengebied te veel losse pellets op kades, bedrijfsterreinen en ook in het water”, verklaart Geens. “We pakken als Ducor dit probleem nu aan, maar dat moet natuurlijk veel breder gebeuren. Ik ben daarom erg blij dat we zoveel partijen in de hele keten bij elkaar hebben kunnen brengen. Alleen samen kunnen we dit probleem oplossen.”

Taskforce wants to combat plastic pollution in the port

A group of companies and organisations want to prevent plastic granules, powders and flakes from polluting the port of Rotterdam. Together, they form the Taskforce Clean Sweep Rotterdam.

The Taskforce Clean Sweep Rotterdam consists of the following ‘core group’ of participants: the Port of Rotterdam Authority, DCMR, Rijkswaterstaat, PlasticsEurope Nederland, Ducor Petrochemicals, LyondellBasell, Shin-Etsu, Huntsman and Rotterdam Polymer Hub. These parties recently held an initial digital consultation. The task force will work in working groups on the themes of awareness, enforcement, historical pollution and clean-up.

Pellets, powders and flakes 

The programme is named after the Operation Clean Sweep programme of PlasticsEurope, the branch organisation of the plastics producing industry. This aims at zero emissions of plastic pellets, powders and flakes. Chairman Ann Geens (Ducor) of the Taskforce Clean Sweep Rotterdam states that the Taskforce supports the objectives of Operation Clean Sweep.

‘Wider scale’

“There are too many loose pellets in the Rotterdam port area on quays, business premises and also in the water”, Geens explains. “As Ducor we are now tackling this problem, but of course this needs to be done on a much wider scale. I am therefore very pleased that we have been able to bring together so many parties throughout the chain. Only together can we solve this problem.”
