Het Havenbedrijf Moerdijk realiseert voor het eerst een shortsea-verbinding met Ierland. Vanaf 8 september a.s. gaat de directe dienst van start.

Voor de shortsea-verbinding heeft het Havenbedrijf Moerdijk de handen ineen geslagen met BG Freight Line. Deze rederij gaat met haar schepen Moerdijk met Dublin verbinden. Elke donderdag wordt Moerdijk aangedaan en elke zondag komen de schepen in Ierland aan.

Shortsea-verbinding

“Deze nieuwe stap past bij onze ambitie om te groeien als shortsea haven. Via de haven van Moerdijk verbinden we het Europese achterland met tal van Europese zeehavens. We hebben al mooie kustvaartverbindingen op Spanje, Portugal, het Verenigd Koninkrijk, Noorwegen en via Oslo met de Baltische Staten en zijn trots dat we Ierland aan het rijtje kunnen toevoegen”, verklaart commercial manager logistics Annette van Ketel van het havenbedrijf.

Vertragingen vermijden

Koert Luitwieler van BG Freight Line zegt blij te zijn met de verbinding. “We zijn ervan overtuigd dat de dienst veel waarde zal toevoegen aan zowel de lokale bedrijven in de omgeving van Moerdijk als het achterland, zoals Duitsland en Italië. In Dublin varen we op onze eigen terminal, Marine Terminals (MTL), waardoor we vertragingen in de keten zoveel mogelijk vermijden.”

Moerdijk shortsea connection with Ireland

The Moerdijk Port Authority is realising a shortsea connection with Ireland for the first time. The direct service will start as from 8 September.

For the shortsea connection, the Moerdijk Port Authority has joined hands with BG Freight Line. This shipping company will connect Moerdijk and Dublin with its ships. Every Thursday, the ships will call at Moerdijk and every Sunday they will arrive in Ireland.

New step

“This new step fits in with our ambition to grow as a short sea port. Through the port of Moerdijk, we connect the European hinterland with numerous European seaports. We already have beautiful short sea connections to Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Norway and via Oslo to the Baltic States and we are proud to be able to add Ireland to the list”, explains Commercial Manager Logistics Annette van Ketel of the port authority.

Avoiding delays

Koert Luitwieler of BG Freight Line says he is pleased with the connection. “We are convinced that the service will add a lot of value to both the local companies in the Moerdijk area and the hinterland, such as Germany and Italy. In Dublin, we sail at our own terminal, Marine Terminals Ltd (MTL), thus avoiding delays in the chain as much as possible.”
