Shell, Energie Beheer Nederland, Gasunie en Totalenergies werken aan een nieuw CCS-project, waarbij CO2 onder de zeebodem wordt opgeslagen. Het concept omvat onder meer een nieuwe CO2-inzamelingshub op de Maasvlakte.

Aramis, zoals het project heet, moet de industrie de mogelijkheid bieden CO2 te transporteren en op te slaan in lege gasvelden onder de Noordzee. Volgens de initiatiefnemers is de infrastructuur ook toegankelijk voor derden.

Maasvlakte

Onderdeel van het concept is een nieuwe CO2-inzamelingshub op de Maasvlakte, die bestaat uit een compressorstation, een terminal om schepen aan te leggen en opslagtanks waarin vloeibare CO2 kan worden opgeslagen. De CO2 kan zowel per schip als pijpleiding naar de ‘hub’ worden getransporteerd. Van daaruit gaat de CO2 in een offshore pijpleiding naar op zee gelegen platforms. Daar wordt de CO2 in bestaande putten in lege gasvelden geïnjecteerd.

CCS-project

De vier partijen zeggen synergie te willen zoeken met andere CCS-projecten als Porthos en Athos. In de komende tijd willen ze in samenspraak met lokale partijen onderzoek doen naar de transportfaciliteiten.

Shell, Energie Beheer Nederland, Gasunie and Totalenergies are working on a new CCS project, in which CO2 is stored under the seabed. The concept includes a new CO2 collection hub on the Maasvlakte.

Aramis, as the project is called, will enable industry to transport and store CO2 in empty gas fields under the North Sea. According to the initiators, the infrastructure is also accessible to third parties.

Compressor station

Part of the concept is a new CO2 collection hub on the Maasvlakte, consisting of a compressor station, a terminal for docking ships and storage tanks for liquid CO2. The CO2 can be transported to the hub either by ship or by pipeline. From there, the CO2 is transported in an offshore pipeline to offshore platforms. There, the CO2 is injected into depleted offshore gas fields.

CCS projects

The four parties say they want to seek synergy with other CCS projects such as Porthos and Athos. In the coming period, they want to research the transport facilities in consultation with local parties.
