Vattenfall heeft een optie genomen op een terrein in het conversiepark op de Maasvlakte. Het bedrijf wil er een electrolyser bouwen die uit windstroom groene waterstof produceert.

Het project ‘CurtHyl renewable hydrogen’ staat op een onlangs door de Rijksoverheid gepubliceerd overzicht van waterstofprojecten in Nederland. Vattenfall bevestigt tegen Europoort Kringen dat het een optie heeft op een stuk land in het conversiepark voor het opzetten van grootschalige electrolyse.

Conversiepark

Het conversiepark ligt zowel in de nabijheid van het windpark Slufterdam van Vattenfall als de aanlanding van elektriciteit van het offshore windpark Hollandse Kust Zuid. In eerste instantie wil Vattenfall een 10 MW electrolyser bouwen voor het omzetten van elektriciteit van windpark Slufterdam naar groene waterstof. Vanaf 2025 wil het bedrijf een 100 MW electrolyser in gebruik nemen die windstroom verwerkt afkomstig van windpark Hollandse Kust zuid.

Waterstofpijpleiding

Voor het project werkt Vattenfall samen met Air Liquide, dat eigenaar is van een bestaande waterstofpijpleiding. Belangrijke afnemers van de waterstof zijn volgens Vattenfall raffinaderijen, die zo grijze waterstof kunnen vervangen door groene.

Ook Shell heeft bekendgemaakt een 200 MW electrolyser op het conversiepark te willen bouwen. Verder hebben BP en Nobian plannen om op het terrein een 250 MW electrolyser te realiseren.

Vattenfall has taken an option on a site in the conversion park on the Maasvlakte. The company wants to build an electrolyser there that produces green hydrogen from wind power.

The ‘CurtHyl renewable hydrogen’ project is included in an overview of hydrogen projects in the Netherlands recently published by the national government. Vattenfall confirms to Europoort Kringen that it has an option on a piece of land in the conversion park for setting up large-scale electrolysis.

Conversion park

The conversion park is located in the vicinity of both Vattenfall’s Slufterdam wind farm and the electricity landfall of the Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm. Initially, Vattenfall wants to build a 10 MW electrolyser to convert electricity from the Slufterdam wind farm into green hydrogen. From 2025 onwards, the company wants to commission a 100 MW electrolyser to process wind power from the Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm.

Hydrogen pipeline

For the project, Vattenfall is cooperating with Air Liquide, which owns an existing hydrogen pipeline. According to Vattenfall, refineries are important customers for the hydrogen, enabling them to replace grey hydrogen with green hydrogen.
