Bij Huntsman Rotterdam is vorige maand de Crystallizer 5 in gebruik genomen. Volgens het bedrijf biedt de installatie nieuwe marktkansen.

De nieuwste installatie bij Huntsman in Rotterdam is 55 meter hoog. De Crystallizer 5 vervangt de veertig jaar ouder crystallizers van de MDI-1-fabriek. Hiermee kan Huntsman zes ton per uur uit distillaat produceren. Volgens het bedrijf opent de installatie nieuwe mogelijkheden in de markt.

“Met Crystallizer 5 kunnen we meer uit de site halen. We kunnen de splitsingsratio verhogen tot dertig procent en meer, en een veel waardevoller product verkopen. Met deze katalysator kunnen we ons ware potentieel ontsluiten”, aldus Steen Weinen Hansen, polyurethanes vice president EAIME bij Huntsman.

‘Buitengewoon succesvol project’

Kai Khogali, operations director bij Huntsman Polyurethane: “Dit project werd uitgevoerd tijdens een Covid-jaar, dus het ging niet zonder slag of stoot. Maar de echte maatstaf voor elk project is hoe goed het heeft gepresteerd en hoe snel het is opgestart. Op die twee punten is het een buitengewoon succesvol project geweest. We hadden drie weken tijdens de commissioning. Aan het eind van die drie weken was de centrale op MSR en binnen een week in spec.”

Huntsman takes Crystallizer 5 into operation

At Huntsman Rotterdam the Crystallizer 5 went into operation last month. According to the company, the installation offers new market opportunities.

The latest installation at Huntsman in Rotterdam is 55 metres high. The Crystallizer 5 replaces the crystallizers of the MDI-1 plant that are forty years older. It allows Huntsman to produce six tonnes per hour from distillate. According to the company, the plant opens new opportunities in the market. 

Split ratio

“With Crystallizer 5 we can get more out of the site. We can drive that split ratio up to 30% and beyond and sell a much more high value product. With this catalyst, we can unlock our true potential”, says Steen Weinen Hansen, polyurethanes vice president EAIME at Huntsman.

‘Exceptionally successful project’

Kai Khogali, operations director at Huntsman Polyurethane: “This project was done during a Covid year, so it didn’t come without its challenges. But the true measure of any project is how well did it perform and how quickly did it start up. On those two counts it has been an exceptionally successful project. We had three weeks during commissioning. At the end of those three weeks the plant was at MSR and within one week in spec.”
