Bart Leenders (Neste) is verkozen tot 41e Havenman van het Jaar. Hij dankt zijn verkiezing aan een serie investeringen van Neste in Rotterdam.

Neste beschikt sinds 2011 over een raffinaderij op de Maasvlakte waar het hernieuwbare brandstoffen produceert. Leenders, vice president production Renewable Products bij Neste, was betrokken bij een aantal belangrijke investeringen in Rotterdam. Eind vorig jaar nam Neste voor 258 miljoen euro ‘buurman’ Bunge over. Ook steekt het Finse bedrijf 190 miljoen euro in de raffinaderij om duurzame vliegtuigbrandstof te kunnen maken. Verder is Neste van plan in Rotterdam een tweede raffinaderij te bouwen. Hierbij gaat het om een investering van 1,5 miljard euro.

Havenman

Voor de Stichting Havenman/vrouw van het Jaar woog ook mee dat Leenders zich inzet voor het bredere belang van de Rotterdamse haven. In het bestuur van Deltalinqs vertegenwoordigt hij de sector renewables en ook is hij voorzitter van de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Duurzame Biobrandstoffen (NVDB).

Normaal gesproken wordt de onderscheiding op de tweede maandag van het nieuwe jaar uitgereikt. Vanwege de coronacrisis is dit uitgesteld naar de tweede maandag van april: 11 april.

Bart Leenders (Neste) new Port Man of the Year

Bart Leenders (Neste) has been elected as the 41st Port Man of the Year. He owes his election to a series of investments by Neste in Rotterdam.

Since 2011, Neste has a refinery on the Maasvlakte where it produces renewable fuels.
