In de haven van Moerdijk is de eerste paal de grond in geslagen van de nieuwe Air Separation Unit van Air Liquide. De fabriek wordt in de zomer van 2022 in gebruik genomen.

Het Franse bedrijf investeert 125 miljoen euro in de bouw van de Air Separation Unit (ASU), waarin zuurstof en stikstof worden gemaakt. Het energieverbruik van de nieuwe fabriek ligt ongeveer 10 procent lager dan bij vergelijkbare installaties. Ook beschikt de ASU over net-stabiliserend vermogen. Als er op het energienet een piekbelasting is, kan de nieuwe installatie tijdelijk het energieverbruik verlagen terwijl de productie gelijk blijft.

“We zijn bijzonder blij met de komst van het Air Liquide”, verklaart manager commercie Jayand Baladien van het Havenbedrijf Moerdijk. Volgens hem snijdt het mes aan meerdere kanten. “Met de grote investering laat het bedrijf zien dat het vertrouwen heeft in de toekomst en de groeipotentie van industriecomplex Moerdijk. We verwachten dat deze nieuwe fabriek een magneetwerking heeft op andere bedrijven, wat kan zorgen voor meer werkgelegenheid. Tegelijkertijd heeft het bedrijf duurzaamheid hoog in het vaandel staan. Het wil nadrukkelijk bijdragen aan een koolstofarme samenleving. Dat sluit naadloos aan op onze ambities.”

Air Liquide builds Air Separation Unit in Moerdijk

The first pile of Air Liquide’s new Air Separation Unit has been driven into the ground at Moerdijk port. The plant will be taken into use in the summer of 2022.

The French company is investing 125 million euros in the construction of the Air Separation Unit (ASU), in which oxygen and nitrogen are produced. The new plant’s energy consumption is around 10 percent lower than that of comparable plants. The ASU also has a grid-stabilising capability. If there is a peak load on the energy grid, the new plant can temporarily reduce energy consumption while production remains the same.

Ambitions

“We are extremely pleased with the arrival of Air Liquide,” explains Jayand Baladien, manager of commerce at the Moerdijk Port Authority. According to him, there are several advantages. “With the large investment, the company shows that it has confidence in the future and the growth potential of the Moerdijk industrial complex. We expect this new plant to act as a magnet for other companies, which could create more employment. At the same time, the company considers sustainability to be of paramount importance. It explicitly wants to contribute to a low-carbon society. That fits in seamlessly with our ambitions.”
