Koole Terminals zet verschillende stappen op het gebied van verduurzaming. Het plan ‘Koole 2.0’ is daarbij leidend.

Het bedrijf heeft daarvoor het plan ‘Koole 2.0’ opgesteld, waarin behalve voor duurzaamheid aandacht is voor onder meer ‘people & organization’, ‘asset integrity’ en operational & operational excellence.

Verduurzaming

Koole zet niet alleen in op laadpalen en zonne-energie, maar heeft ook gasgestookte stoomketels ingeruild voor restwarmte en e-boilers. “Maar de grootste klimaatwinst zit ‘m in onze bijdrage aan de overgang van onze klanten op biobrandstoffen. Op dit moment zijn we al het grootste biobrandstoffen-opslagbedrijf van het Antwerpen-Rotterdam-Amsterdam-gebied. Daarnaast bouwen we bijvoorbeeld drie tankputten om waar voorheen stookolie werd opgeslagen naar opslagtanks voor biobrandstoffen”, aldus Van der Kley. 

Afvalstromen

Daarnaast beschikt Koole in de Botlek over een unit waarmee het afvalstromen destilleert en omzet in nieuwe brandstoffen. Retourdampen uit schepen vangt Koole op; deze worden in een gesloten systeem in energie omgezet.

Koole Terminals is taking various steps in the area of sustainability. The ‘Koole 2.0’ plan is leading the way.

The company has drawn up the ‘Koole 2.0’ plan, in which attention is paid not only to sustainability, but also to ‘people & organisation’, ‘asset integrity’ and operational excellence.

Biggest gain

Koole is not only focusing on charging stations and solar energy, but has also exchanged gas-fired steam boilers for residual heat and e-boilers. “But the biggest climate gain is in our contribution to our customers’ transition to biofuels. We are already the largest biofuel storage company in the Antwerp-Rotterdam-Amsterdam area. We are also converting three tank pits where fuel oil was previously stored into storage tanks for biofuels”, says Van der Kley.

Waste streams

Koole also has a unit in the Botlek which distils waste streams and converts them into new fuels. Koole collects return vapours from ships and converts them into energy in a closed system.
